First experiences in Nanjing

Welcome to our little digital corner! Here is a recap of our very first weeks settling into life in Nanjing—from funny culture shocks and food adventures to getting used to a whole new school routine.

Settling into school and campus life

One of our biggest milestones was starting out at the new school. Navigating a vast campus, meeting classmates from across the world, and adjusting to the daily schedule was definitely an adventure during the first few days, but things are quickly falling into place

Others, however, have been—and continue to be—challenging. To be open and straightforward, the biggest challenge so far has been helping Luis adapt to his new school, which started on September 2nd, and to the Chinese school system in general. But more on that at a later stage!

Apps, deliveries, and the language barrier

Life here runs entirely on your phone. From paying for groceries with QR codes to navigating instant delivery apps, the learning curve was steep. Hand gestures and translation apps have become our best allies, leading to plenty of funny misunderstandings along the way!

Tasting local flavors and discovering the city

Between discovering authentic street snacks and strolling past historical landmarks, Nanjing has surprised us every single day. The food can be delightfully unexpected, and we are loving the contrast between bustling modern avenues and quiet, ancient streets.
